Waterjet Cutting

The use of industrial equipment that forces a highly pressurized water stream through a small orifice for the purpose of clean, precise cutting by means of erosion. Within the waterjet cutting industry, the waterjet cutting tools may be referred to as an “Abrasive Waterjet,” which implies the the waterjet system also uses and added abrasive agent to maximize cutting power and accelerate the cutting process. “Pure Waterjets,” on the other hand, refer to a waterjet system that does not use such an abrasive agent to its high velocity water stream, instead relying only on the speed of the water that is expelled. Pure waterjets are most often used to cut such softer materials as wood, food products, and plastics, while an Abrasive Waterjet serves to cut much hard materials like stainless steel and titanium. Waterjet cutting is a widely applicable method across many industry sectors, and is the favored cutting method for those industries which require the cutting of heat- sensitive materials. This is due to the fact that waterjet cutting does not cause the post- cutting material damage that is common to other cutting methods such as laser and plasma cutting.
